Hashtags! Those little things you see all over social media, but what are they? Learn a little more about them and they’ll be your best friend.

In this guide we are going to talk about hashtags for Instagram as this is where they are most used. Within Instagram and many other social media platforms, hashtags are a way to get your posts seen by users who aren’t following you, for free.

Hashtags are Instagram’s way of having keywords, and enabling us to find content from anywhere in the world which we are interested in. So for example, you want to find a restaurant in Singapore. If you type in #restaurantsingapore and click search - every single post which has used this hashtag will show up and you can click on it, taking you to the post and the account. If a restaurant in Singapore doesn’t use this hashtag, they won’t show up in hashtag search results and are less likely to get business.
